Angora Fibers
Our German Angora Rabbits are the product of highly specialized breeding, which took place in Germany over the last century. Specialized breeding has developed an Angora rabbit that produces the highest amounts of fiber per harvest, of any of the Angora rabbit breeds. All pure German Angora rabbits are Ruby Eyed White (REW). Our German Angora rabbits heritage, include a Colored Angora from one of the other Angora breeds, because a high percentage German Angoras with a Colored Angora rabbit in their pedigree, even if the Colored ancestor is a few generations back, may inherit and display colored wool, while simultaneously maintaining the higher fiber yield that German Angora rabbits are renowned for. Our Rabbits were bred as such.
Our Giant Angora rabbits are the largest of the ARBA accepted angora breeds, having been created by Louise Walsh to be an efficient wool producing rabbit. Its coat contains three types of wool: under wool, awl, and guard hair; the awl type wool exists only on the giant and German angora. The Giant Angora produces more wool than the French, Satin or English Angora. Like the German angora, Giant Angora rabbits do not molt. This breed should have furnishings on the face and ears. Many people confuse German angora with Giant angora, but they are not the same. We have both here at the Cluckin' "A" Critter Farm. In fact, we bought our Giant Angora rabbits from Louise Walsh herself at her farm in Taunton, MA.
