What stupid birds... Ugly stupid birds... Oh, contraire!!!! They are such fun to watch and first in line as the very best of the bug pickers. I'd say that our turkeys were actually one step ahead of the guinea fowl at picking ticks, fleas and ants, not to mention the regular, larger sized bugs they all the other fowl pick up all day long. Actually...since we've had turkeys free ranging here on the farm, we have not found a tick on a dog, ourselves or anywhere else for that matter. We have found that each turkey has a unique personality and they are all friendly and curious. They immediately come to welcome you when you pull in the driveway in the summer, but it is also true that they have an ulterior motive for the visit as well.... for they will pick every bug off the grill and bumper of the car as soon as their curiosity with the occupants of the car is satisfied. We figure we can make many people happy by offering adult free range, all natural fed, turkeys for both the Thanksgiving and Christmas Day dinner table. Peeps and poults will also be available in season. We constructed an 8 by 8 foot turkey house against the end of the "Bunny Brothel". We also fenced in a run area to allow them to be out without being near the chickens. They have a yard beside their front enclosure, accessible from the rear of the building.
