Peeps, Poults and Chickens

When we started the farm, both Vick and I thought it would really be neat to raise some chickens, so we went to the local farm store and bought a total of six peeps that were a day old. We raised them in the basement in a huge tub, with a heat lamp over the top, until they grew big enough that we could transfer them to the chicken barn we bought. We divided it down the center and housed chickens on one side and duck peeps on the other side. It was soon evident that we would need another building to separate the chickens and ducks, providing each with an outside screened in run area. We would also need a brooding house, used to exclusively hatch, and raise broods of ducks and chickens until they were big enough to go to the barns. The rest is history!

Here they are at two weeks of age.....

When viewing our prices, remember...... in recent years, the demand for chicks and pullets has increased so rapidly, that you cannot get them from the farm stores unless you order ahead. That means what does come in, are promised to ordering customers only. This makes it virtually impossible to get them after the start of the season. Last year by June, you could not even order them because the hatcheries were swamped with orders through the end of the year. We have peeps, free range pullets and meat birds available all through the summer months here on the farm. We will also be selling mature meat birds.
